WHAT’S IN THE NAME?
Clover Leaf Media’s roots are buried in railroading — so it’s only fitting that we honor a railroad in our name. Enter the Toledo, St. Louis & Western Railroad, nicknamed the Clover Leaf Route.
The Clover Leaf once boasted 451 miles of track crisscrossing the Midwest, but it was born in the Buckeye state in 1881 from a merger of several narrow gauge railroads. After facing bankruptcy multiple times as it slowly converted to standard gauge, the Clover Leaf grew far beyond the borders of Ohio and, with its vital artery connecting Toledo and St. Louis, became a major player in America’s breadbasket. Always keen for innovation, it was one of the first railroads to utilize automatic block signaling, now a mainstay on virtually every railroad in America. Its trains were instantly recognizable thanks to the clover leaf emblem on much of its equipment. On December 28, 1922, the Clover Leaf became part of the legendary New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad — the Nickel Plate Road — which would go on to become nationally recognized for efficient high-speed freight service.
Like the Clover Leaf Route, Clover Leaf Media has grown from humble beginnings into a distinct creative brand with an eye for innovation — ready to build your brands, capture your memories and bring your stories to life.
